Local News Briefs: Funds for home sewage treatment systems

ZANESVILLE — The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's Water Pollution Control Loan Fund has made financial assistance available for repair and replacement of failing home sewage treatment systems.

BLUE ROCK — Blue Rock Township Trustees have announced that Poverty Ridge Road will be closed Friday for a culvert replacement starting at 8 a.m. about two miles north of Shaver Road, weather permitting. 

COLUMBUS — The State of Ohio has announced nearly $40 million in tax credits part of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit program to 38 historic building projects across the state. 

This includes $250,000 in tax credits to the Black Diamond Development in on Main Street in Shawnee of Perry County. The total project is estimated at $2.63 million.  

One of building, dating to the 1890s, was historically a mixed-use commercial building and will house a bar/restaurant plus two apartments upstairs. The other building is partially occupied currently with a vacation rental unit, but plans call for two more of those units to be finished on the upper level and the first floor will be renovated for commercial use.

BEREA — Blaine Schultice of Zanesville graduated from Baldwin Wallace University a bachelor's degree in music - instrumental performance. She's a graduate of Philo High School. 

FINDLAY — Several local students have graduated from the University of Findlay during spring commencement. 

Gabriella Bohn of Zanesville received a bachelor's degree in animal science. Lane Deal of Chandlersville earned a bachelor's degree for business administration. Jace Swingle of Philo got a doctorate of pharmacy. 

Tori Roberts received a master's degree in occupational therapy. Terra Campbell graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in business management. Both are from Frazeysburg. 

OXFORD — Megan Davis of Chandlersville and Justin Colon of Zaensville were named to the spring semester dean's list for regional campuses of Miami University. 

ZANESVILLE — Several American Red Cross blood drives are scheduled upcoming in the local area. 

Drives will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 1 at Secrest Auditorium, noon to 6 p.m. July 1 at West Muskingum High School, 1 to 7 p.m. July 5 and 11 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, noon to 6 p.m. July 6 at Colony Square Mall and 1 to 6 p.m. at Meadow View Church of Christ in Frazeysburg. 

Drives in Perry County will be from 2 to 7 p.m. July 5 and 1 to 7 p.m. July 14 at the New Straitsville United Methodist Church, noon to 5 p.m. at Crooksville Elementary School and noon to 6 p.m. at Perry Behavioral Health Choices Activity Center in New Lexington.
